Helping you brew great coffee at home is our mission!

Meet the Coffee Doctor

Dr. Terry Hadaway has been roasting coffee for a long time. Though his PhD isn't in "coffee," it might as well be. The name "Coffee Doctor" was coined by a coworker more than ten years ago.

As the Coffee Doctor, Terry is often discussing brewing equipment, bean selections, and offering general coffee advice. You might call him a "coffee-ologist." Once you taste his coffee, however, you'll be calling for more. The doctor is here to help you get the best flavor from your home brewing efforts. No appointment is needed!

Clean. Smooth. Delicious.

That's not a marketing slogan; it's what people say when they taste our coffee. We roast on a bed of hot air so the coffee is never in contact with a hot metal surface. As a result, there is less charring, less acidity, and more flavor.

What is fresh coffee?

Roasted coffee needs 48-72 hours after roasting to season. Whole bean coffee will then last about 4-6 weeks if kept in an air tight container away from moisture, air, heat, and light. The peak flavor is about 7-10 days after roasting. At that point, the flavor begins to degrade each day.

But, six-week old coffee is still a lot fresher than what you'll find on the shelves of your local grocery store or in some coffee shops. The coffee used for your latte might be months old when you consume it!

When coffee is roasted in large batches, the roasters have to bag it, ship it, and then you buy it. So, the best advice is to buy coffee as close to the roast date as possible, use a burr grinder and grind when you brew it, use it within a few weeks and then order some more.

Where to buy

We are a small batch, micro-roaster. That means we roast in small quantities. We only roast after you order so it is fresh. Freshly roasted coffee will provide the very best coffee experience.

"Keep It Fresh" isn't just a slogan; it's a passion.

KEEP IT FRESH

Coffee has four natural enemies... air, moisture, heat, and light. To keep your coffee fresh for longer, you want to protect it from these enemies. One way to do that is by storing it in an airtight, opaque container in cool, dark location.

Here are some tips:

  • Do not store coffee in the refrigerator or freezer because it exposes the coffee to moisture and other elements that compromise the flavor.

  • If possible, remove the coffee from the bag and place it in an airtight container.

  • Try to buy coffee that was roasted nearby and recently. If the coffee doesn't have a "roasted on" date, try to find one that does.

  • Only buy what you will use in a week or so. Stocking up at the mega warehouse might be great if you're buying paper towels. But that's not recommended if you're buying coffee.

BREW IT RIGHT
